Yes, it's dark; it's meant to be. The exercise challenge was to create an image in the chiaroscuro style: an emphasis of strong contrast between lights and darks. I chose to illustrate Lucifer engaged in deep meditation. The image is almost totally the output of Vue d'Esprit; after rendering, I painted his hair in PSP.
